St Bueno's - North Wales

St Bueno's - finished

We worked hard as a practice to achieve a cost effective solution to the waste treatment plant on a sloping site with some deep excavation work and ensured careful co-ordination of the project as an enabling works phase to the larger en-suiting project to follow.

Brief

St Beuno’s Spiritual Retreat is a Grade II* Listed Building which is a large residential retreat set in landscaped gardens in North Wales. Our client required the implementation of the design and installation of a new large waste treatment plant to serve the existing premises and the removal of the existing defective waste treatment plant. The new waste treatment plant was sized to serve 161 persons.

Challenges + Opportunities

The main challenges within the project were the installation of the new waste treatment plant as phase one of an overall project within a tight time scale as enabling works to the larger en-suiting project and also to ensure no disruption to the existing facilities within the structure while the works were being implemented and the premises occupied. Adapting the existing drainage to the new waste treatment plant location was also required.

Strategy

St Bueno's in progress

The strategy for the works included the ground excavation and installation of the new waste treatment plant while the existing waste treatment plant remain in operation. Once the new waste treatment plant was installed an agreed date and time for disconnection of the existing waste treatment plant was to be implement and the new installation connected, this ensured that no disruption to the building occurred.

Services

Building Surveying division of the practice was instructed to provide contract administration, design services, project management to ensure the project was fully implement from conception to completion, including co-ordination of other consultants as the lead consultant and provision of budget cost advice services including agreeing cost variations, cost reporting, negotiating and settlement of the final account and issuing interim payment certifications.

“Fantastic to work with. Would recommend!”
