Architectural Design Service - It’s Awards Season!
7th March 2018
It’s awards season again and whilst my nominations for best leading actor award from the BAFTA and the Oscars Committees must have got lost in the post, I must admit to being very pleased to learn that a project I was responsible for has been nominated by Bury Council Building Control for the LABC Award for Best Extension to a Building.
Bury Baptist Church’s existing buildings consisted of a brick built bungalow facing Manchester Road with a single-storey octagonal Worship Space behind. Prior to the Church occupying the site, the bungalow was a residential property.
We offer a full architectural design service and the proposals involved internal alterations to the existing bungalow to create a welcome/café meeting room, with smaller meeting room and new toilet facilities alongside. The existing single garage (formerly serving the bungalow) was demolished and a new single-storey extension with pitched roof constructed alongside to provide accommodation for a new kitchen and office. The main entrance to the building was emphasised with a new entrance porch and external areas re-graded to create level access. Internally a new platform lift was installed to give level access from the front of the building through to the Worship Space. The space between the existing bungalow and Worship Space was infilled with a small single-storey extension to create a crèche / meeting room.
The Shortlist will be announced at the beginning of March and the Awards are presented on 27th April so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will have to take my dinner jacket and bow-tie to the dry cleaners before then.
Now, how to start that acceptance speech?
